Like many, my remote/work from home space is often the kitchen counter. This is far from optimal as it involves moving all my kitchen items when I want to work. Then moving all my office items when I want to cook. I considered adding a desk to my bedroom given there was space for it. But given it is hard enough to have a separation of home and work life working from home, I decided against. There is a tiny space at the top of our stairs outside the bedrooms that was 36 inches wide and 3 feet long. I landed this was the perfect little nook for my small space office given it is unoccupied and has an existing power outlet.
Now the challenge was finding the right office gear. Most importantly, a desk that was small enough for a 36 inch wide space. I found a cute mint one from target after searching google for 36 inch wide desks. In order to further maximize space, I landed on using a rolling filing cabinet as a chair. I indulged in some cute art work that brought the mint desk and chartreuse green filing cabinet all together. Given I have limited desktop space, I invested in some hanging organization. This cute gold grid is compatible with a file holder, pencil cup and letter sorter. So perfect for storing items I want easy access to, such as pens and importance paper work. Bonus that it’s made from 100% recycled content!
The biggest thing I learned from this project is to make the most of small unused spaces in the house. Who knew a small nook at the top of our stairs would make a perfect small space office? What small space project should I work on next – entry way, kids play area, or mail organization?
